Why we recommend it

Llama Path is a Cusco trekking company with more than 23 years of experience, dating its business back to 2003. Its office is at Calle Cuychipunku 257 in Cusco, and it is best known for the Inca Trail, which it runs as group and private treks of four or five days, as well as the two-day Short Inca Trail with a hotel or camping option.

The company's range goes well beyond the classic route. Alternative treks include the Salkantay Lodge Experience, Salkantay to Santa Teresa, Lares, Choquequirao, Vilcabamba to Machu Picchu and Ausangate to Sibinacocha, and there is a seven-day trek that links Salkantay with the Inca Trail. For travellers who prefer not to hike, Llama Path runs one- and two-day train trips to Machu Picchu, including a luxury option, and a two-day Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour. Day trips from Cusco cover Rainbow Mountain, the Sacred Valley, Humantay Lake and Maras and Moray, and multi-day packages such as Best of Peru, a Cusco and Inca Trail combination and Mountains and Jungle extend to Tambopata and Manu in the Amazon.

Porter welfare is central to the company's identity. It calls its porters the Red Army, says they receive fair wages and proper equipment, and claims to be the only company that takes its porters on annual holidays. It also runs the Llama Porter House and education and community projects for porters and their families. That approach has been recognised with the World Travel Awards' South America Responsible Tourism Award three years running, from 2022 to 2024, and Tripadvisor Certificates of Excellence in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Groups are kept small, typically between six and ten travellers, which makes for a more personal experience on the trail and at camp. The company reports more than 5,000 five-star reviews and more than 10,000 journeys organised.

Llama Path suits trekkers who want a well-run Inca Trail with an ethical focus, as well as experienced hikers looking for remote routes such as Choquequirao or Ausangate. The office is open Monday to Saturday in the morning and late afternoon, and reservations can be made by phone, WhatsApp or email.
