Good to know
Jazz Dock is a jazz and blues bar and club on Janáčkovo nábřeží, the Smíchov embankment of the Vltava, just south of the Legion Bridge. Unlike the cellar jazz clubs of the Old Town, it is a modern space right on the riverbank, looking across the water towards the New Town. It has become one of the busiest live music venues in the city, with a programme that mixes Czech musicians and international acts.
Concerts take place most nights. The style ranges from jazz trios and singers to soul, funk, blues and crossover projects, and the line-up changes nightly, so check the programme before you go. Most shows start in the evening, often at 20:00, with some later late-night sets at weekends. Tickets can be bought online through the programme page, through the Prague Ticket Office or at the club itself during opening hours. Regulars can join the Jazz Pass card scheme after three visits.
The club works well as a bar too. It opens at 17:00 from Monday to Friday and at 15:00 at weekends, staying open until the early hours, and the kitchen serves food until midnight, so you can have dinner before the music starts. The riverside setting makes it a good place for an early evening drink before the music starts. The atmosphere is relaxed and mixed, with locals, students and visitors.
Jazz Dock suits couples, music lovers and groups of friends, and it is a good alternative to the more tourist-oriented venues across the river. Arrive early for popular concerts to get a good table, and book tickets in advance for well-known names. Prices for drinks are moderate. If you want dinner before the show, arrive in good time, since the best tables fill up first on concert nights. For bigger names it is worth buying tickets online a few days ahead.
Jazz Dock is a short walk from Anděl, the main hub of Smíchov, with metro line B and many trams. You can also walk across the Legion Bridge from the National Theatre in about ten minutes, enjoying views of the castle on the way. Café Savoy and Kampa Island are close by on the same bank of the river.
Monday to Wednesday 17:00 to 02:00, Thursday and Friday 17:00 to 03:00, Saturday 15:00 to 03:00 and Sunday 15:00 to 01:00.
Most concerts start in the evening, often at 20:00, but times vary, so check the programme.
