Hotel
Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik
A five-star seafront hotel in Ploče, a five-minute walk from the Old Town walls, with a private beach, spa and indoor pool and a guest list…
An adults-only five-star hotel on Lapad Bay, with a beach and pools, three restaurants and a bar inside a natural limestone cave.
Good to know
Hotel More is a five-star, adults-only hotel on the seafront of the Lapad peninsula, overlooking Lapad Bay to the west of the Old Town. Guests must be 14 or older, which gives the hotel a calm, grown-up atmosphere, and its waterside position makes it a resort-style base for travellers who want to swim every day and visit the Old Town by bus or taxi.
The hotel's most famous feature is Cave Bar More, a bar set inside a natural limestone cave beneath the building and spread over several levels, with a terrace at the edge of the sea. Beyond the cave, there are three restaurants, Restaurant More, Restaurant Tramuntana and Natali Garden, the last close to the Old City, plus the Lobby Bar Taraca and a Pool Bar. The hotel has its own beach and pools, a wellness and beauty studio and a fitness room, so it is easy to spend a whole day without leaving.
Ask for a room facing the bay when you book. The coastal path that runs from Lapad beach past the hotel is a pleasant route for a morning walk or run, and the Lapad area has a good choice of restaurants and cafés within walking distance.
The trade-off for the peace and the sea is distance from the walls. Lapad is a few kilometres from the Old Town, and you will need a city bus or taxi to get there. Many guests find the balance ideal: sightseeing in the morning, then back to the hotel for an afternoon swim and dinner by the water. The adults-only policy means it is not suitable for families with younger children.
Prices are at the luxury end. The hotel's homepage does not say whether it opens all year, so check dates and the status of seasonal facilities such as the pool bar if you are travelling in winter. Couples, honeymooners and friends travelling together will get the most out of a stay. Non-residents can visit Cave Bar More for a drink, which is a good way to see the hotel before deciding whether to stay. Guests who want to explore beyond the Old Town will also find Lapad a convenient base for walks along the bay.
