Good to know
Generator Copenhagen is a hostel in the old town, on Adelgade, just a short walk from Kongens Nytorv, Nyhavn and Rosenborg Castle. Its central location makes it one of the most convenient budget bases in the city, with most of the main sights within walking distance and the metro close by.
The hostel offers both shared dorms and private rooms. Dorms have four, six or eight beds, and there is a women-only six-bed dorm. Private rooms range from Deluxe King and Superior King or Twin rooms to family rooms for four and private rooms with four, six or eight beds, which work well for groups of friends who want their own space at a hostel price.
Generator puts a lot of effort into its social spaces. There is a bar and restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with a happy hour, a pétanque bar and outdoor terrace, nine shuffleboard tables spread through the bar, and PlayBar, a games bar that can be hired privately for groups of up to 45 people. Other facilities include a café, chill-out areas, a travel shop, an event space, bike hire, luggage storage, laundry and a 24-hour reception, with free Wi-Fi throughout.
The hostel suits solo travellers, groups of friends, students and families on a budget. The bar is open from 7:00 to 23:00 from Sunday to Wednesday, until midnight on Thursday and until 2:00 on Friday and Saturday, and the outdoor terrace closes at 22:00, so weekends can be lively. Light sleepers should bring earplugs or choose a private room. Book well ahead for summer and for weekends, when prices rise and dorm beds sell out.
Getting there is easy. Kongens Nytorv metro station, on the M2 line from the airport, is a short walk away, and Nørreport station, with metro, S-trains and regional trains, is also close. From the hostel you can walk to Nyhavn, the King's Garden, Rosenborg Castle and the National Gallery of Denmark in a few minutes, and bike hire at reception makes it simple to explore further afield.
Check what is included in your rate, such as breakfast or towels, before you arrive, as hostel rates often vary in what they cover.
