Hotel
The Reykjavik EDITION
Five-star harbourfront hotel beside Harpa with 253 rooms and suites, the TIDES seafood restaurant, a rooftop bar and a social spa looking out over the bay.
Four-star tower hotel in Borgartún with 320 rooms over 16 floors, the Haust Bistro, a beer garden bar and views across the bay and harbour.
Good to know
Fosshotel Reykjavík is a 16-storey tower at Þórunnartún 1 in the Borgartún business district, a little east of the old town. It belongs to Fosshotels, part of Íslandshótel, a group with hotels across the country, and it is rated four stars. With 320 rooms, it is well suited to groups, business travellers and visitors who want reliable modern comfort at a more moderate price than the boutique hotels in the centre.
The height of the building is its main selling point. Rooms on the upper floors have views over the city, the bay and the harbour, with Mount Esja across the water, and the top floor is given over to seven suites, two of which can also be used as meeting rooms. Rooms have tea and coffee makers, wifi is free, and housekeeping is provided daily on request.
The hotel restaurant is Haust Bistro, and breakfast is available, while Bjórgarðurinn, the Beer Garden, is the hotel bar and a relaxed place for a drink at the end of the day. The second floor has conference facilities, and there is a lift, luggage storage, a 24-hour front desk and paid parking for those travelling by car. The hotel has held Green Key environmental certification since August 2024.
The hotel suits families who need a bit more space, groups, conference guests and drivers, who will find parking much easier than in the old town. The trade-off is the location: the centre is around 15 to 20 minutes' walk away along Laugavegur or the seafront, rather than on the doorstep. That walk passes Höfði House and the Sun Voyager sculpture, so it is a pleasant one in good weather.
For visitors planning to drive around Iceland, the hotel's parking and its position close to the main roads out of the city make it a practical starting point for a road trip. Ask about luggage storage if you plan to leave a bag behind while you travel around the country, as the hotel lists luggage storage among its services.
Book early for summer and ask for a high floor with a sea view. For groups of five or more rooms, the hotel has a dedicated groups address. Hlemmur food hall and the eastern end of Laugavegur are the nearest places for dinner outside the hotel.
The hotel is at Þórunnartún 1, 105 Reykjavik, in the Borgartún district east of the city centre.
