Café
Conditori La Glace
Copenhagen's classic patisserie, founded in 1870 just off Strøget, serving traditional Danish layer cakes such as the Sportskage in an old-fashioned tea room.
The original coffee bar of Copenhagen's best-known specialty roaster, now in a larger space on Jægersborggade in Nørrebro, serving direct-trade coffee seven days a week.
Good to know
Coffee Collective is the specialty roaster that did more than most to shape Copenhagen's modern coffee culture, and its coffee bar on Jægersborggade in Nørrebro is where the story of its shops began. The company's first coffee shop was on this street, and it has since relocated to a new, larger space at number 57, still in the heart of Nørrebro. Coffee Collective now runs several coffee bars across the city, including counters in Torvehallerne and at Trianglen, but Jægersborggade remains the one with the strongest sense of place.
The company describes itself as a specialty coffee roastery that works directly with farmers to ensure quality, transparency and sustainability, and its direct-trade approach is central to how it buys beans. In practice the selection changes through the year as new coffees arrive from the farms it works with, and the shop is a good place to try coffees side by side and compare them.
The café suits coffee enthusiasts, remote workers looking for a short break and anyone exploring Nørrebro. It is a coffee bar rather than a full café, so think of it as a place for an excellent drink and perhaps a pastry rather than a long lunch. Seats can fill up at weekends.
The coffee bar is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 20:00 and on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 to 19:00, which makes it one of the easier specialty coffee stops to fit into a long day. Early mornings are calm and popular with locals on their way to work, while weekend afternoons are livelier.
Jægersborggade is a short street of independent shops, cafés and small restaurants in Nørrebro, and it makes a pleasant walk with your coffee. From the city centre it is a bike ride or a bus trip up Nørrebrogade, and Bæst and the bars around Sankt Hans Torv are within walking distance. If you only have time for one Coffee Collective visit and are staying in the centre, the Torvehallerne counter is the more convenient alternative.
Other branches include Bernikow in the centre, Godthåbsvej in Frederiksberg, Guldsmedgade, Sankt Hans Torv, Carlsberg Byen and the Collective Bakery, so you are rarely far from one of its cups.
Monday to Friday 7:00 to 20:00, and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 to 19:00.
