Good to know
Casamémoire is the organisation to know if Casablanca's architecture is what brought you to the city. Founded in 1995, it is a non-profit Moroccan association dedicated to protecting and promoting the city's 20th-century architectural heritage, from the Art Deco and Mauresque buildings of the protectorate era to the modernist landmarks of the post-war decades. Its work has helped residents and visitors look at the city's modern buildings as heritage worth protecting.
For visitors, its most useful offer is guided visits and thematic circuits through the city's architectural districts. The association works with volunteer guide-mediators who share the history behind the facades, and it has developed the CasaTourat app, which lets you follow heritage circuits on your smartphone at your own pace. The app is a practical way to explore Boulevard Mohammed V, Mohammed V Square or the Habous quarter independently if a guided visit does not fit your dates.
Casamémoire's best-known event is the Casablanca Heritage Days, the Journées du Patrimoine, when guided visits and events run across the city. The 2026 edition took place from 13 to 19 April under the theme Casablanca Atlantique. The association has also organised night-time heritage visits in previous years. If your trip coincides with one of these events, it is worth planning your stay around the programme.
These visits suit architecture and history enthusiasts, photographers, design professionals and curious travellers who want more than the headline sights. Contact the association in advance by phone or email to ask about upcoming visits, languages and how to book, as programmes vary through the year. Walks involve standing and walking on city pavements, so wear comfortable shoes and bring water and sun protection. If you use the CasaTourat app, charge your phone fully before setting out, as following a circuit with maps and commentary can drain the battery.
The association's office is on Avenue Lalla Yacout in the city centre, close to Boulevard Mohammed V and the Central Market. Combine a heritage visit with lunch at the Central Market, a visit to the Abderrahman Slaoui Museum in its 1940s building, or an afternoon at the Sacré-Cœur and Parc de la Ligue Arabe, all of which feature in the city's architectural story.
