Bar
Siete Negronis
A cocktail bar devoted to the Negroni, listed on The World's 50 Best Bars extended list three years running, now at Terrazas San Cristóbal in Bellavista.
A branch of the much-loved Bar Liguria, founded in 1990, serving classic Chilean bar food, wine and cocktails in Barrio Lastarria until after midnight.
Good to know
Bar Liguria is a Santiago institution, a bar and restaurant where locals meet for long evenings of food, wine and conversation. The first Liguria opened on 10 August 1990 at Avenida Providencia 2682, a small place with no more than half a dozen people working, owners, cooks and waiters included. It now has several branches, and the Lastarria bar, on Merced, is the most convenient for visitors staying in the centre.
The kitchen serves the dishes that have always been on Chilean tables. Each day you will find plateada, mechada, pescado frito, pichanga, costillar, pasta and arrollado, which the bar describes as a good sample of what has always been served at Chilean tables. The bar pours wines, cocktails, beers and spirits, so it works as well for a drink as for a full meal.
Each Liguria has interiors by El Bazar de la Fortuna, the design team behind the bars' look, and the Lastarria branch suits the neighbourhood's bohemian character.
The Lastarria branch opens from Monday to Saturday from 12:00 to 00:30 and is closed on Sundays. The nearest metro stations are Universidad Católica and Bellas Artes. Other branches are at Manuel Montt on Avenida Providencia, Pedro de Valdivia and Luis Thayer Ojeda in Providencia, near the Manuel Montt, Pedro de Valdivia and Tobalaba metro stations; the Manuel Montt bar stays open until 01:30 from Thursday to Saturday. The Providencia branches open earlier, from 10:30 on weekdays, which makes them handy for a late breakfast or an early lunch, and the Pedro de Valdivia and Luis Thayer Ojeda bars close earlier on Saturdays, at 21:30.
Liguria is a good choice for a relaxed evening rather than a big night out: come for dinner, stay for another bottle of Chilean wine, and enjoy the conversation around you. It is also a reliable lunch option in Lastarria.
The bar suits couples, groups of friends and solo travellers happy to sit at the bar, and it is a good way to experience how Santiago residents eat and drink out. Combine it with a walk around Lastarria and Cerro Santa Lucía, or with an evening performance at the GAM cultural centre or the Teatro Municipal.
