Why we recommend it

The Hotel Georgia opened on 7 May 1927 on West Georgia Street, designed by the architects Robert T. Garrow and John Graham Sr. It later closed for a major restoration costing $120 million and reopened on 10 July 2011 under the management of Rosewood Hotels and Resorts. The work combined many of the original rooms, cutting the total from 320 to 155 and making each one larger. Rosewood describes it as Vancouver's time-honoured city sanctuary.

The hotel is twelve storeys high and offers deluxe rooms, suites and larger signature suites, as well as accessible rooms. A further round of renovation in 2024 refreshed several public spaces, including the 1927 Lounge and the Reflections terrace.

Dining and drinking are spread across the building. Hawksworth Restaurant, from the chef David Hawksworth, celebrates regional and seasonal cooking and was recommended in the 2024 Michelin Guide. Reflections, an open-air garden terrace, serves seasonal tapas-style dishes and locally inspired cocktails. The 1927 Lounge, decorated with local art, is known for afternoon tea, served as The Art of Tea, and has live music, as does The Georgia Bar, which offers whisky tastings and small bites. In the basement, long used for beer halls, cocktail bars and nightclubs, Prophecy opened in 2024 as a speakeasy-style bar. Bel Café, with pastries from the Hawksworth kitchen, is good for breakfast on the go.

For relaxation there is Sense, A Rosewood Spa, which uses locally sourced treatments, runs a monthly spa offer and sells day passes, and the hotel also has a pool and a fitness centre. The spa describes itself as a 2026 award-winning sanctuary.

The Rosewood suits couples, special occasions and travellers who want heritage character with modern luxury. Even if you stay elsewhere, afternoon tea in the 1927 Lounge or a drink on the Reflections terrace is worth booking. Reservations can be made by email or through Rosewood's website.

The hotel is at 801 West Georgia Street, on the same street as the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver at number 900. The Vancouver Art Gallery at 750 Hornby Street and the Bill Reid Gallery at 639 Hornby Street are both close by.
