Bar
Dieu du Ciel!
Craft brewpub on avenue Laurier Ouest, open since 1998, where the brewers behind Péché Mortel and Rosée d'Hibiscus pour their beers on tap.
Award-winning cocktail bar on avenue Atwater, open nightly until 3am, ranked 32nd in North America's 50 Best Bars and run on a walk-in-only basis.
Good to know
Atwater Cocktail Club is one of the most decorated bars in Montreal. It is part of Groupe Barroco, and it has been ranked 32nd in North America's 50 Best Bars and third in Canada's best bars. It also appeared in Canada's 50 Best Bars in 2020 and was named among the top ten cocktail bars in the Americas at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards in 2019.
The drinks are the focus. The bar works with fresh ingredients, house-made syrups and carefully chosen spirits, and the menu mixes its own creations with the classics, so it suits both adventurous drinkers and anyone who simply wants a well-made old fashioned or martini.
It is open every night from 5pm to 3am, and the kitchen serves food until 10.30pm from Sunday to Wednesday and until 11pm from Thursday to Saturday, so you can eat a light dinner at the bar before the late crowd arrives. That makes it a practical choice for the whole evening rather than just a nightcap.
There are no reservations and no guest list. The bar is walk-in only, capacity is limited and parties are capped at six people, so smaller groups have a much better chance of getting in. Arriving soon after opening is the simplest way to avoid a wait, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. For private events and group bookings, write to [email protected].
It suits couples, small groups of friends and cocktail enthusiasts. Prices are at the upper end for Montreal bars, in line with its reputation.
The bar is at 512 avenue Atwater in the south-west of the city, the same part of Montreal as Atwater Market and the Lachine Canal. That makes it easy to combine with dinner in Little Burgundy, where Joe Beef and the Burgundy Lion pub are both on rue Notre-Dame Ouest, or with an early-evening walk along the canal before your first drink. Atwater Market closes at 6pm on weekdays and 5pm at weekends, so a late-afternoon browse among its cheese and charcuterie counters can lead straight into the bar's 5pm opening. With a cap of six per party and no bookings, arriving early is the most reliable plan.
