Why we recommend it

Occupying an 1882 apartment building on one of Galata's most attractive streets, Georges opened in 2011 after a design-led renovation using local craftspeople and materials, with the facade restored by architect Han Tümertekin. It has since appeared on Condé Nast Traveller's Hot List and Gold List.

Rooms range from deluxe doubles, several with balconies, to suites with terrace or Bosphorus views; it is worth paying for a balcony or sea view. The rooftop Le Fumoir restaurant and bar looks over the Bosphorus, the Golden Horn and, on clear days, the Princes' Islands. The Galata Tower is a couple of minutes' walk away, and booking direct unlocks the hotel's own offers.
