Good to know
Cool Tour Company is a Kraków operator with a base in the Old Town and a range of ways to see the city: on foot, by bike and on a Segway. Its main office is in a courtyard at Grodzka 2, just off the Main Market Square, and its bike tours start from a second courtyard at Sławkowska 11, reached through the gate marked with the sign of the Chicago Music Club. For visitors who want to cover more ground than a walking tour allows, the bike tour is a good choice.
The bike tour lasts about three and a half hours, with a break along the way, and loops around the entire city centre. It starts in the Old Town at the Main Market Square, continues through Jewish Kazimierz and crosses the river to Schindler's Factory before returning, so in one outing you see the three areas that most visitors try to fit into their stay. Groups average eight to twelve people, small enough for the guide to share history, fun facts and practical tips along the way. From October to June the tour starts daily at 12:00, and from July to September there are two daily departures, at 10:00 and 16:00, which makes it easy to fit around other plans.
Segway tours are the alternative for those who prefer not to pedal. The company offers a two-hour tour and a longer combination tour of three to five hours, as well as group tours and Segway rental. On foot, its walking programme includes a Jewish Quarter Walk that ends at the Schindler's Factory museum, an Old Town Walk, a Ghost Tour about the darker side of the city's past, and the Red Star Tour. Bikes can also be rented for independent exploring.
The bike tour suits active travellers, couples, groups of friends and families with confident teenage riders. Follow the guide's lead on busy streets, where cyclists share space with pedestrians. Dress for the weather and bring water in summer.
Book through the company's websites or by calling the office, and confirm the meeting point when you reserve, particularly as the bike and walking tours start from different courtyards. Arrive a little early so the tour can start on time.
