Bar
Zitto Speakeasy
A hidden cocktail bar in the port area styled on 1920s Italy and Prohibition, with leather armchairs, velvet banquettes and a seasonal menu of creative cocktails.
A rooftop bar and evening lounge at the top of the Aston La Scala hotel, with panoramic views over the Promenade du Paillon, the old town and Castle Hill.
Good to know
The Moon Bar is the rooftop bar of the Hôtel Aston La Scala, a large hotel on Avenue Félix Faure facing the Promenade du Paillon. From its terrace high above the city, the view takes in the green ribbon of the park, the rooftops of Vieux Nice and Castle Hill beyond, and it is one of the best places in central Nice for an evening drink with a view.
The bar works in two modes. During the day in summer, the terrace serves light meals and drinks, while from 18:00 until midnight it becomes a panoramic lounge where cocktails are served with plates and tapas created by the hotel's head chef, Stéphane Furlan. The cocktail list includes house signatures, and the setting makes it a natural spot for a sunset aperitif before dinner in the old town. The regional tourism board lists it among the best rooftops in Nice and notes that live concerts take place at weekends in the Aston Club on the floor below.
In winter, when the terrace is less inviting, the large windows remain a draw: the tourism board points out that they give views over the Nice Carnival parades and the Christmas Ferris wheel, both of which take place nearby. The rooftop pool and solarium are reserved for hotel guests; if you are not staying at the hotel, call ahead to check availability at the bar.
Opening hours depend on the season and the weather, so check the hotel website before going. The terrace and pool open from June to September in the daytime, and the bar and restaurant serve until midnight. Reservations are made by phone; calls are put through to the bar. Smart casual dress fits the setting.
The Moon Bar suits couples, friends and anyone wanting a relaxed drink with a view rather than a loud night out. It is also convenient if you are staying in the centre, as it is only a few minutes' walk from Place Masséna.
Afterwards, cross the Promenade du Paillon into Vieux Nice for dinner or a later drink in the lanes, or stroll down to Place Masséna to see the Plensa statues lit up at night.
