1. Nairobi National Park
Kenya's first national park, created in 1946, where lions, black rhinos and giraffes roam open grassland within sight of the Nairobi skyline.
View details — Nairobi National ParkNairobi's sights fall into two clusters, and planning around them saves hours in traffic. The south-western suburbs hold the wildlife highlights: Nairobi National Park, whose gates open at 06:00, the Giraffe Centre in Lang'ata and the Karen Blixen Museum in Karen. Start with an early game drive in the park, when predators are most active, then continue to the Giraffe Centre before the late-morning crowds and finish at the Blixen house and gardens. Many park and attraction fees are paid through eCitizen, M-Pesa or card rather than cash, so set up a payment method before you go.
The second cluster is the city centre and Museum Hill. The Nairobi National Museum opens daily from 08:30 and deserves two to three hours, with the Snake Park in its grounds. In the central business district, KICC's rooftop helipad, the Murumbi Gallery at the Kenya National Archives, the Nairobi Gallery at Point Zero and the exterior of Jamia Mosque can be combined on a half-day walk, ideally in the morning. Rail enthusiasts can add the Nairobi Railway Museum on Station Road, and the Nairobi Arboretum off State House Road offers a quiet green break between museum visits.
