Hotel
The Ritz-Carlton, Santiago
A 205-room luxury hotel in El Golf with one MICHELIN Key, English-manor public rooms, a spa with Andes views and the seafood-focused Estró restaurant.
A 62-room luxury hotel in Barrio Lastarria holding one MICHELIN Key, with a rooftop bar over the city, indoor and outdoor pools and a spa.
Good to know
The Singular Santiago is a luxury hotel in the historic centre and one of a small number of hotels in the city to hold a MICHELIN Key, the guide's distinction for a very special stay. The Michelin inspectors describe it as no less visually distinguished than its countryside sibling, but a little more refined and a little less rugged.
The hotel has 62 rooms and sits at Merced 294 in Barrio Lastarria, the protected heritage quarter between Cerro Santa Lucía and Parque Forestal. That location is its great advantage: you can walk out of the door to the cafés and restaurants of José Victorino Lastarria street, Emporio La Rosa's original ice-cream shop on the same street, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and the climb up Santa Lucía, and the historic centre around the Plaza de Armas is close.
The rooftop bar is the hotel's best-known feature, with views over practically the whole city, and sunset is the obvious time to head up. The spa is a highlight, and facilities include both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a jacuzzi and a gym. The restaurant applies French techniques to Chilean ingredients, so you do not need to leave the building for a good dinner.
Practical details: check-in is from 15:00 and check-out by 12:00. There is a 24-hour front desk, concierge and room service, free wifi, luggage storage for late departures, adjoining rooms for families and cots subject to availability. The hotel is wheelchair accessible and entirely non-smoking. There is no parking on site, so if you are hiring a car, arrange a nearby car park in advance, although in Lastarria you will hardly need one.
The Singular suits couples, design lovers and travellers who want a luxury base within walking distance of the main sights rather than in the business districts to the east. Book well ahead for weekends and the high season, and ask about adjoining rooms if you are travelling as a family. Metro stations at Universidad Católica and Bellas Artes serve the neighbourhood, making it easy to reach the rest of the city, and the GAM cultural centre on the Alameda is nearby for an evening performance.
