Good to know
Rosetta is the restaurant of the chef Elena Reygadas, on Calle Colima in Roma Norte. It opened in 2010 and first became known for its homemade bread and pasta, before the menu moved towards seasonal Mexican ingredients. Reygadas was named Latin America's best female chef in 2014 and The World's Best Female Chef by The World's 50 Best Restaurants in 2023, and Rosetta entered that list at number 49 in 2023 before rising to 34 in 2024. It holds one star in the 2026 Michelin Guide Mexico, and the inspectors describe the cooking as creative and Mexican. Its website also presents an events space, Salón Rosetta, and a Rosetta book, but the restaurant is where her cooking is shown most fully.
The dishes are designed for sharing, so it pays to come with at least one other person and order several plates. Vegetables play a leading role in several of the dishes the inspectors highlight. Recent dishes noted by Michelin include tacos made with two small rounds of Savoy cabbage, served warm with pistachio purée and romeritos, a sweet potato tamal over toasted pumpkin seeds with buttermilk sauce and salsa macha, and thin slices of Manila mango with coconut cream and horchata ice cream.
Bookings are handled through the reservations page of the website, and there is a dedicated reservations email and a phone line. Reserve a few days ahead, and further in advance for a Friday or Saturday. Card payments are accepted, and there is a terrace, the only area where pets are allowed. Larger parties and private occasions are handled through a separate events email.
Expect to spend around two hours. The Michelin Guide places it in its two-symbol price band, below the city's most expensive tasting-menu restaurants. Mention dietary requirements when booking.
Rosetta is at Colima 166 in Roma Norte, in the borough of Cuauhtémoc. Reygadas's bakery, Panadería Rosetta, opened on the same street in 2012 and is the place to try her guava roll, while her coffee house, Café Nin, is in Colonia Juárez. Contramar is in the same neighbourhood, on Durango, so it is easy to plan a seafood lunch one day and dinner here the next.
