Good to know
Toronto Bicycle Tours was founded in 2011 by Terrence, its founder and general manager, building on a touring business he had run since 2008. It has been a member of Destination Toronto, the city's tourism organisation, since it opened, and it runs guided rides with small groups led by local guides.
The tour list covers different levels of effort. The Heart of Downtown Bike Tour and the Toronto Islands Bike Tour both last about three and a half hours and are rated very easy, making them suitable for occasional cyclists. The islands tour promises skyline views, easy paths and local stories, and the car-free islands, with their beaches, lighthouse and residential communities, are well suited to cycling. The Edible Path is a culinary cycling tour of four to five hours, and an e-bike tour called Pedals and Progress covers more ground in three and a half hours.
For a full day, the Downtown and Island Combo Tour lasts around seven hours and pairs the city streets with the island shoreline, while the Round the City Tour, also about seven hours and rated moderate, is the most complete option. Bikes, helmets, water and snacks are included where needed, and the company also offers private tours, corporate events and bike rentals for those who prefer to explore on their own.
Safety is taken seriously: guides are trained in first aid and CPR, and the company is fully insured. The company describes Toronto as a city of seasons, with something different to see at each time of year.
The office is unusual: it is in a parking garage at 124 St Patrick Street, about 50 metres south of Dundas Street on the west side of the street. Enter the garage and follow the yellow signs down to level P2, section H. The company describes the downtown tour as a super-easy introduction to the city and the Round the City Tour as the ultimate see-it-all day. The WhatsApp number is for text messages only, so call the office number if you want to speak to someone.
The tours suit active travellers, families with older children and anyone who wants to cover more of the city than on foot. Check the schedule online and book ahead in summer, and contact the office by phone or by WhatsApp text.
Most tours last about 3.5 hours; the Edible Path takes 4 to 5 hours and the full-day tours about 7 hours.
