Good to know
Aqua Luna runs harbour cruises on a traditional wooden Chinese junk with red sails. The boat's Chinese name is Cheung Po Tsai. A cruise is a relaxed way to see the skyline from the water, and the company also offers dining experiences on board and in partnership with restaurants.
The company offers several kinds of sailing. The Daytime Harbour Cruise has lounge beds on deck for taking in the harbour views. The Evening Harbour Cruise and Late Cruise each last about 45 minutes, and the Symphony of Lights Cruise, also 45 minutes, is timed to coincide with the nightly light and laser show on the skyline. There are also longer day trips, including a Dim Sum Cruise to Lei Yue Mun and a Stanley Cruise to the south side of Hong Kong Island, as well as an Afternoon Tea Cruise and seasonal specials such as a Halloween sailing.
Cruises pick up from four piers: Tsim Sha Tsui Public Pier 1, Central Pier 9, Wan Chai Public Pier and Hung Hom Public Pier, so you can board on whichever side of the harbour suits you. Some packages combine an evening cruise with dinner at partner restaurants, and private charters are available from two hours to a full day.
Book ahead, especially for evening sailings at weekends and during holidays. Evening sailings suit couples and groups of friends, while the daytime and Stanley cruises are good for families. Sailings depend on the weather, so check for cancellations if strong winds or storms are forecast, and bring a light layer for the evening breeze on the water.
Check the website for the latest timetable and prices for each cruise before booking, and choose your pick-up pier carefully, as the four piers are spread across both sides of the harbour. If you are celebrating, ask about the dining packages, which combine a sailing with a meal ashore.
The booking office is open from 10am to 7pm on weekdays and from 11am to 8pm at weekends and on holidays, and staff can be reached by phone for questions about schedules and charters. A cruise pairs well with dinner on either side of the harbour, as the pick-up piers are in both Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.
