Stephanie Izard's Girl & the Goat on Randolph Street serves bold, globally influenced shared plates, with a seasonal menu, cocktails and Sunday brunch.
Good to know
Girl & the Goat is chef Stephanie Izard's flagship restaurant on West Randolph Street, run in partnership with Boka Restaurant Group. It is one of the best-known restaurants on Randolph Street and a popular choice with locals and visitors alike.
The cooking is bold and globally inspired, with a local focus and a seasonal menu that changes often. Dishes are designed for sharing, so the best approach is to order several plates for the table and let them arrive as they are ready. A few items have stayed on the menu for years: the green beans are a long-standing favourite, and the sticky glazed pork shank, served with butternut squash and pickled vegetables, is one of the signature larger plates. Goat, as the name suggests, features too, and a braised goat shoulder is offered as a pre-order kit for pickup. The drinks list covers cocktails, wine and locally brewed beer.
Dinner is served from 4:30pm to 10pm from Sunday to Thursday and until 11pm on Friday and Saturday, and there is a Sunday brunch from 10am to 2pm. Reservations are taken through OpenTable via the restaurant website, with separate bookings for Sunday brunch and for The Tiniest Goat, a chef's counter experience. Book well ahead for weekend evenings; walk-ins have a better chance early in the evening or late.
The restaurant suits groups of friends and couples who enjoy sharing food, and it is a good choice for a lively first night in Chicago. It is less suited to anyone wanting a quiet, formal dinner. Staff can advise on how many plates to order for your group, and on dishes for different dietary needs. A dedicated private dining page covers events for larger groups.
Expect a mid to upper price level, with the total depending on how many plates you share. Allow around two hours for dinner. For enquiries, call +1 312-492-6262 or email [email protected].
Randolph Street is lined with restaurants and bars, so it is easy to arrive early for a drink nearby or continue afterwards. Monteverde is a few minutes' walk away on Madison Street, and The Hoxton hotel, with Izard's rooftop restaurant Cabra, is close by in Fulton Market.
