Hotel
Four Seasons Hotel Prague
A five-star hotel on the Vltava beside Charles Bridge, joining four historic buildings, with the AVA Spa and the riverside CottoCrudo Italian restaurant.
A luxury hotel of 101 rooms set within a 13th-century Augustinian monastery in the Lesser Town, with a spa and the St. Thomas Brewery Bar.
Good to know
The Augustine is part of Marriott's Luxury Collection and occupies a group of historic buildings on Letenská Street, at the foot of the castle hill in the Lesser Town. Its story is unusual: the hotel is connected to an active Augustinian monastery dating back to the 13th century, where a small community of monks still lives, and it adjoins the Baroque Church of St Thomas. Few hotels anywhere offer such a direct link to the life of a working religious house.
There are 101 rooms and suites, each individually furnished, and most were created by combining two or three former monks' cells. The result is a set of rooms that differ in shape and character, so no two are quite the same.
The monastery connection runs through the guest experience. Guests can join tours such as a visit to the monastery library led by a resident friar, which explains the history of the Augustinian order in Bohemia. The St. Thomas brewery was founded by the monastery in 1358, and its name lives on in the St. Thomas Brewery Bar, set in the former brewery space under the roof of the hotel. The hotel also has restaurants and a spa.
The Augustine suits couples, history lovers and travellers who want a sense of place rather than a standard luxury hotel. Its location is excellent for sightseeing on the left bank: Malostranské náměstí and St Nicholas Church are a few minutes away, Charles Bridge is about five minutes on foot, and the Old Castle Steps lead up to Prague Castle from nearby. The Wallenstein Garden, one of the city's finest Baroque gardens, is just around the corner, and the Vltava embankment is a short stroll away.
Malostranská metro station on line A is a short walk away, as are several tram stops, so the rest of the city is easy to reach. Book through the Marriott website for the full range of room types and to ask about the monastery tours available during your stay. Remember that the monastery and church remain places of worship, so respect any areas that are closed to guests, and check the schedule of tours when you arrive.
