Good to know
Hotel Josef is a contemporary design hotel on Rybná Street in the Old Town, a few minutes' walk from Old Town Square and the Powder Gate. It was designed by Eva Jiřičná, the Czech-born architect who spent much of her career in London and is known for her elegant use of glass and steel. It offers a modern, minimalist alternative to the city's many period-style hotels and appeals to travellers who prefer clean lines to chandeliers.
The lobby sets the tone, with a spiral staircase that is one of the hotel's signatures. Rooms are calm and pared back in the same spirit, and there is a good range of categories. Mini Rooms are compact and suit solo travellers or couples, Superior rooms can take a third bed, and Lounger Sofa Rooms, with an oversized sofa and an optional extra bed, are designed for families and longer stays. Castle View rooms look towards Prague Castle, while the top-floor Balcony Rooms and the Rooftop Lounge have private outdoor space, ideal for breakfast in summer. Signature Rooms show off Jiřičná's design most clearly. The atmosphere is relaxed and professional, with a small team that knows the city well.
Josef has its own bakery, Josef Bakery, which supplies pastries and bread for breakfast and coffee breaks, and breakfast is one of the highlights of a stay. The hotel also has meeting rooms, which makes it popular with business travellers during the week. The Old Town on the doorstep is full of places to eat, from Lokál Dlouhááá and Naše maso on nearby Dlouhá Street to the fine dining of La Degustation.
The hotel suits couples, solo travellers and design-minded visitors who want a central location at a mid-to-upper price level. It is quieter than hotels on the main squares, as Rybná is a small side street, yet everything in the Old Town is within walking distance.
The nearest metro station is Náměstí Republiky on line B, about five minutes away, and the Dlouhá třída tram stop is around the corner. Old Town Square is about five minutes on foot, and Charles Bridge about 15. Book directly through the hotel's website or by email to the reservations team.
