Good to know
Opened in 1947, the Bamboo Bar is the oldest jazz venue in Bangkok and still has the atmosphere of a 1950s lounge, with rattan, low lighting and a small stage. It was founded after the war under the hotel's then manager, the photographer Germaine Krull, and has since become a fixture for jazz lovers visiting the city.
A live band with a jazz vocalist plays from 20:00 most nights, with a pianist on Sundays. The cocktail list is creative and changes with the seasons. Reservations are not accepted, so arrive early for a good seat. After 18:30 smart dress is expected, men need long trousers and closed shoes, and guests under 20 may only enter before 19:30.
