Good to know
Sacré-Cœur sits on the summit of Montmartre, the highest point in the city, and its pale stone domes are visible from much of Paris. Inside, the vast apse mosaic dominates the interior, while the steps and terraces outside are one of the classic places to watch the city spread out below.
Visiting the basilica is free and it is open every day from early morning until late evening. The climb up to the dome is a separate visit with its own schedule, so check the official site before you go. Avoid the busiest steps by approaching through the quieter streets on the west side of the hill, or take the Montmartre funicular.
