Musée du Louvre
The world-famous former royal palace on the Right Bank, home to the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and thousands of works spanning antiquity to the…
A former Beaux-Arts railway station on the Left Bank holding the world's best-known collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art.
Good to know
Housed in the old Gare d'Orsay, a grand railway station built for the 1900 Exposition, this museum covers French art from 1848 to 1914. The fifth-floor galleries gather celebrated works by Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cézanne and Van Gogh, while the main hall, under the original station roof, is lined with sculpture.
Do not miss the view through the giant station clock towards Montmartre. Booking tickets online saves queuing at busy times, and the Thursday late opening, when the museum stays open until 9.45pm, is a good choice for a slightly calmer visit. Combined tickets with the Musée Rodin are available.
