10 towns in Kwara Every Traveler Must Know.

According to Wikipedia, Kwara State is in the Western part of Nigeria, bordered to the east by Kogi State, to the north by Niger State, and to the south by Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo states, while its western border makes up part of the international border with the Benin Republic. Kwara state capital is the city of Ilorin and the state has 16 local government areas, and more than 400 towns spread across it.

On May 27th, 1967, the Federal Military Government of General Yakubu Gowon divided the four regions of the Federation of Nigeria into 12 states, with the former Ilorin and Kabba provinces of the Northern Region becoming the West Central State, which was later renamed Kwara.

The name “Kwara” is derived from a local name for the River Niger in the Hausa language. Since then, the state has undergone several changes in size due to further state-creation exercises in Nigeria.

In 1976, the Idah/Dekina part of the state was merged with part of the then Benue/Plateau state to form the Benue state. In 1991, five Local Government areas were excised to form part of the new Kogi state, while a sixth was merged with Niger state.

The most populated local governments in Kwara state are Ilorin and Offa. Kwara state is rich in mineral resources such as tourmaline, tantalite, and many mineral deposits in the northern part, as well as cocoa and kola nut in the Southern parts of Oke-Ero, Ekiti, and Isin LGA.
