Why we recommend it

Khufu's opened in 2022 inside the Giza archaeological site and has quickly become the most talked-about restaurant in Egypt. It was founded by Giovanni Bolandrini, the figure behind the Pier88 group, and the kitchen is led by Mostafa Seif, who won Top Chef Middle East in 2018. In 2026 it was ranked number one on the list of the Middle East and North Africa's 50 Best Restaurants, the first Egyptian restaurant to take the top spot, after earlier recognition as one to watch on the global list.

The dining room and terrace are built in pale stone that echoes the monuments, and the view of the Great Pyramids from the tables is the obvious draw. The food is classic Egyptian cooking reworked with a lighter, contemporary touch, using seasonal produce and drawing on the country's long culinary history. At breakfast the chef's signature koshari salad and baba ghanoush are popular, while lunch is built around set menus, including a vegetarian set menu and a mixed grill menu for two. Dishes change with the seasons, so check the current menu on the website.

The restaurant suits couples, special occasions and anyone who wants a memorable meal during a day on the plateau. It is relaxed rather than formal, but smart casual clothing is sensible, and flat shoes help on the sandy approach. Families are welcome, and the set menus make ordering for a group straightforward. Prices are high by Cairo standards, though reasonable for a restaurant of this profile and setting.

Khufu's serves breakfast and lunch only, so plan your visit to the pyramids around your booking. Reservations are made through the restaurant's website and are strongly recommended, especially in the cooler months from October to April when tables fill days ahead. You also need a valid admission ticket for the Giza plateau, as the restaurant is inside the site; your booking does not replace it. For an evening meal, the group runs the separate Khufu's Bistro, which has its own reservations page.

Allow around two hours for a relaxed meal, or a little less for breakfast. Combine lunch with a morning at the pyramids and the Sphinx, then continue to the Grand Egyptian Museum, about two kilometres away, in the afternoon. Taxis and ride-hailing cars can drop you at the visitor entrance, where staff can direct you to the restaurant.
