Why we recommend it

Florería Atlántico is one of the most celebrated cocktail bars in Latin America. At street level it looks like a florist on Arroyo, in Retiro. At the back of the shop, a door hidden behind what looks like a bulky refrigerator leads to a subterranean bar that 50 Best describes as a Latin take on the speakeasy. It was created in 2013 by the bartender Renato "Tato" Giovannoni and his business partner Aline Vargas.

The bar has appeared on the World's 50 Best Bars list for more than a decade, and in 2024 it was named the list's Legend of the List; Giovannoni himself received the 50 Best Icon award in 2023. It was ranked 46th in the world in 2024 and 90th in 2025. Giovannoni is also known for creating the Argentine gin Príncipe de los Apóstoles.

The theme is travel and migration. The bar describes itself as a gastrobar and cocktail bar inspired by journeys around the world, and the space and menu draw on the stories of the immigrants who shaped Buenos Aires, past and present, including communities who arrived after Argentina's return to democracy in 1983. The drinks are the main event, but there is a proper food offer too, and many guests settle in for several hours rather than stopping for one drink.

It suits couples, cocktail enthusiasts and small groups who want a memorable evening. The basement is cosy, so it is not the place for a large party. The bar opens every day, and booking is strongly recommended; the website links to a WhatsApp line for reservations, and there is also a reservations email address. Mention any special occasion or dietary needs when you book.

Florería Atlántico is at Arroyo 872, in Retiro. The 50 Best listing notes that it is set near the docks. It works well as a first stop before a late dinner in Recoleta or Palermo, or as a nightcap after a meal nearby. If you enjoy it, Tres Monos in Palermo was opened by a member of Florería's launch team and makes a natural second stop on another night.
