Fairmont Peace Hotel
The Art Deco former Cathay Hotel at the corner of the Bund and Nanjing Road, built by Sir Victor Sassoon in 1929 and home to the…
A small luxury hotel on the Suzhou Creek waterfront with 82 rooms, two Michelin-starred restaurants, a 47th-floor bar and a restored 1916 Chamber of Commerce building.
Good to know
The Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai stands on the Suzhou Creek waterfront north of the city centre, combining a modern tower with the restored former Shanghai Chamber of Commerce building, which dates from 1916. It has just 82 rooms and suites.
Food is a major draw. Bao Li Xuan, the Chinese restaurant, specialises in Guangdong cooking and holds two stars in the 2026 Michelin Guide Shanghai. Il Ristorante, run under the name of the Italian chef Niko Romito, has one star in the same guide. That makes the hotel a destination for dinner even for those staying elsewhere, though both restaurants are best booked well ahead. The Bvlgari Bar sits high on the 47th floor.
The Bvlgari Spa covers around 2,000 square metres and includes the hotel's fitness centre. The heritage Chamber of Commerce building is part of the property, giving the modern complex a link to the city's commercial past.
The hotel suits couples, honeymooners and food-focused travellers. Rates are at the top of the market, reflecting its size and setting.
The hotel opened on 20 June 2018, designed by the Italian firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel as part of the Suhe Creek riverside regeneration project. The tower rises 48 storeys, and the 82 rooms include 19 suites. The restored Chamber of Commerce building next door holds a 480-square-metre ballroom, hung with paintings by Yan Pei Ming and Liu Xiaodong, as well as Bao Li Xuan. Other venues include Il Bar, the La Terrazza rooftop restaurant with 360-degree views, and the first Il Cioccolato chocolate shop and laboratory in China. The spa has eight treatment rooms, a 25-metre indoor heated pool and a gym, and the upper floors look across to the Bund, Pudong and the Huangpu. The restored 1916 building adjoins the tower directly, so guests move between old and new without stepping outside, and non-residents can experience the hotel by booking a table at La Terrazza or a treatment in the spa through the official website.
To plan a visit, use the official website for reservations and for booking the restaurants and spa, and allow time to explore the Suzhou Creek waterfront outside.
