Café
Mandabatmaz
A tiny Turkish coffee spot in a passage off İstiklal Avenue, known for thick, strong coffee served to customers perched on stools in the alley.
The Sirkeci branch of the confectioner dating back to 1864, serving baklava, kadayıf, puddings and Turkish delight with tea and Turkish coffee.
Good to know
Hafız Mustafa's name carries the date 1864, and its Sirkeci shop, on a busy street between Sirkeci station and Eminönü, is one of its best-known branches. Glass cabinets are stacked with baklava, kadayıf, milk puddings, cakes and Turkish delight, and there is seating where you can order a plate of sweets with tea or coffee.
It also serves breakfast and sells gift boxes, which makes it a convenient place to stock up before heading home. Expect queues for tables in the afternoon; the takeaway counter is quicker if you just want a box. Try a mixed baklava plate or one of the milk puddings, and pair it with a Turkish coffee.
