Why we recommend it

Tokyo Great Cycling Tour runs guided rides from its office in Shinkawa, near Nihonbashi and the Sumida River, and cycling turns out to be an excellent way to cover Tokyo's flat central districts. Routes are themed, from Tokyo Bay and Edo-Tokyo culture to hills and backstreets, riverside local life, architecture, the designer public toilets of the Tokyo Toilet project, a sumo morning practice visit and an Asakusa and Oshiage route.

Full-day tours last about six hours and half-day tours about three, and both start and finish at the Shinkawa office. Note that full-day tours are suspended in the summer heat, normally from July to September, when only half-day rides run. There is also an evening tour. Book online in advance, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for a few hours in the saddle.
