Good to know
Pison is a specialty coffee and brunch café on Jalan Hanoman with a terrace that looks out over rice paddies. Inside, the space mixes traditional Balinese architecture with a sleek modern espresso bar, and the combination of serious coffee, an all-day menu and the green outlook means it is often busy, with queues at peak times. The business also has a café in Seminyak. Pison features in a 2026 round-up of the best cafés in Ubud and in an earlier guide to the town's specialty coffee shops, which reflects its standing with both brunch fans and coffee enthusiasts.
Coffee, brunch and pastries are the three pillars here. The coffee list covers espresso drinks such as the piccolo, filter coffee and nitro cold brew. Pison is also known for some more playful creations, including a house special that combines coffee with avocado and chocolate syrup, and in the evening the bar turns out a flat white martini.
The food menu runs all day. Recent dishes include a Sunrise breakfast plate, The Japanese Bowl, brioche French toast, salmon quiche and pork belly nasi goreng, with sweet options such as red velvet waffles. It works as well for a long brunch as for a quick coffee before a morning of sightseeing.
Pison also has two sister venues reached through the rice paddies behind the café: Pison Atelier and Chontea, a Japanese tea house and cocktail bar. A walk across the paddies to see them makes a pleasant addition to a visit. The café opens early in the morning and stays open into the evening, according to recent guides.
Pison suits coffee lovers, brunch fans and remote workers looking for a view, and couples and friends who want somewhere relaxed to start the day. Because it is popular, arrive early in the morning or after the lunchtime rush to get a terrace table. Jalan Hanoman runs south from Jalan Raya Ubud, and the same street is home to KAFE, open since 2004, the barefoot Clear Café and the original Bebek Bengil, as well as Alaya Resort Ubud, so Pison is easy to reach on foot from many central hotels and fits naturally into a walk around the centre of town.
