Good to know
Mojo Market is an indoor food and drinks market on Regent Road in Sea Point, on the ground floor of the Mojo Hotel and about 100 metres from the beach and the Sea Point promenade. It brings together more than 35 food stalls and five bars under one roof, with free live music every day of the year, and it has become one of the Atlantic Seaboard's most popular casual night-out venues.
The format is simple: wander the stalls, pick what you want to eat, grab a drink from one of the bars and find a seat at the shared tables. The range of food is wide, covering many different cuisines, so it works well for groups who cannot agree on where to eat. The bars serve beer, wine, cocktails and soft drinks, and big screens show live sport, which draws crowds on major match days.
Music is a big part of the appeal. Live performances take place daily, and in the evenings the atmosphere becomes lively and sociable, with locals, students, hotel guests and travellers all mixing. It is informal and affordable, and you can stay for one drink or a whole evening.
Opening hours are not listed on the market's home page, so check the latest times on its website or social channels before you go, particularly for late-night visits. Evenings and weekends are the busiest times, when finding a table can take a while, and the noise level rises as the music gets going. Earlier in the evening is better for families with children.
Mojo Market suits groups of friends, backpackers, families and anyone on a budget, as well as guests at the Mojo Hotel upstairs. Sea Point is about 10 minutes by car from the city centre, and MyCiTi buses run along the Atlantic Seaboard. Combine a visit with a sunset walk along the promenade, then head inside for dinner and music. At night, use a taxi or ride-hailing service to get back to your accommodation.
The Mojo Hotel upstairs offers rooms ranging from singles and doubles to larger rooms sleeping up to eight, so the market is especially popular with budget travellers staying in the building. Sea Point's Regent Road also has many other restaurants, cafés and bars within a short walk, so it is easy to move on if the market is full.
