Restaurant
Carnivore
Nairobi's famous meat restaurant on Lang'ata Road, open since 1980, where waiters carve meats roasted on Maasai swords at your table until you lower your flag.
The terrace restaurant of Fairmont The Norfolk, serving Nairobi since 1904, with international dishes served family-style, afternoon tea and a monthly signature brunch.
Good to know
The Lord Delamere Terrace at Fairmont The Norfolk has been part of Nairobi life since 1904, when the hotel opened on Christmas Day that year in the young colonial town. The hotel was advertised at the time as the only stone-built, tile-roofed hotel in East Africa, and in 1934 the East African Professional Hunters' Association was founded at a meeting there. The hotel promotes it as the place where legends have eaten since 1904. For visitors it offers a chance to sit somewhere genuinely historic without needing to stay at the hotel.
The restaurant serves international cuisine presented family-style, with dishes brought to the table to share, which suits groups and families. The menu leans on what the hotel calls timeless favourites rather than experimental cooking, so it is a reliable choice for a business lunch, a relaxed dinner or a first meal after a long flight. Breakfast is served every morning, and afternoon tea is another highlight, a good excuse to stop on the terrace after sightseeing in the city centre.
Once a month the restaurant hosts the Norfolk Signature Brunch, with live cooking stations, signature desserts and live entertainment. Check the date and book ahead if you are in town that weekend, as reservations are required.
The terrace opens for breakfast from 06:30 to 10:30 on weekdays and 06:30 to 11:00 at weekends, then serves lunch and dinner from 12:00 to 22:00 every day. Reservations are required and can be made online, by phone or by email. As a grand hotel restaurant, prices sit at the top of the city's range, and smart-casual clothing fits the setting best.
The Norfolk is on Harry Thuku Road, on the northern edge of the central business district near the University of Nairobi and the Kenya National Theatre. Expect security checks at the hotel entrance, as at most large Nairobi hotels. It is a short drive from the Nairobi National Museum on Museum Hill and from the city centre sights, so lunch here fits easily into a day of sightseeing, and the hotel's other bars and restaurants are on hand for a drink afterwards.
