Why we recommend it

UNPLAN Shinjuku is a budget hostel in the 5-chome area east of Shinjuku's main station district. It offers a choice of four room types, from dormitory beds to semi-private spaces, private double rooms and private family rooms, which makes it unusually flexible for groups and families travelling on a budget.

In the basement, the café and dining bar Encounter by UNPLAN opens daily from 16:00 to 23:00 and is a relaxed place to meet other travellers, and the hostel hosts events through the year. Shinjuku-sanchome Station is about eight minutes' walk, and JR Shinjuku Station is also within reach, so you can be at the bars of Golden Gai or the Shinjuku Gyoen garden without a long journey. Contact the hostel only through its official channels, as it has warned of messages impersonating it.
