Man Utd Set To Make Approach For In-Form Pl Stopper
Manchester United could reportedly make an approach to re-sign West Bromwich Albion stopper Sam Johnstone during this summer’s transfer window.
The 28-year-old stopper has been in stunning form for the Baggies during the 2020-21 season and is believed to leave the Hawthorns in the upcoming market.
Tottenham Hotspur – potentially in the market for a Hugo Lloris long-term replacement – continue to be rumoured with the stopper, who recently earned a call into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
However, according to The Sun, the Red Devils are considering bringing Sam Johnstone back to Old Trafford ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
The report suggested that the 20-times English champions will target the Englishman if either David de Gea or Dean Henderson departs from the club this summer, with both players unlikely to be at the club next season.
Johnstone represented the Red Devils between 2009 and 2018 but never made a senior games for the 20-time English champions, ultimately leaving on a permanent basis to join West Brom.
Sam Johnstone unlikely to make a return to Old Trafford as he is keen on to play regular first-team footfall in order to keep place in Gareth Southgate’s starting lineup.
