I’ll begin by stating a fact: The tech industry is growing fast and becoming the “hottest” cake around. That said, another really fun part of the tech industry is that there is no discrimination, as literarily anyone can build a successful career in tech, no matter your gender, age, educational background, or even social standing. Technology has found use in every ‘face’ of life, and every industry, and is growing steadily daily. Most of us encounter and interact with technology every day through our phones, systems, household equipment, and the list can go on. Choosing a career path in tech is a wise choice, but can also be a confusing one, if you don’t know much of the industry, or are still wondering where to start…..How To Kickstart A Career In Tech

Where Do You Start?

The first question to ask yourself is, what do you know about the technology industry? What path do you want to follow in the tech industry? There are a lot of career paths in the tech industry; Product design, Product management, Software engineering, Cloud computing, data science, and a host of others. The best place to start from is studying all the different paths available in technology, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and use them to get the path that fits you best. This is important because this is the beginning of a career for you, picking an area that you’re best fit to would make the experience easier for you.

What Next?

After picking a career path, you have to familiarize yourself with the general basics. There are some concepts and terms that are common to all or most tech career paths, you can take a short course on platforms like Coursera, edx, udemy, and other online platforms to get to know these basics well. Make research, and familiarize yourself with the tools used by companies and other people in the path you have chosen in tech, tools like Slack, GitHub, zoom, google docs, Figma, and others. Develop yourself. Practice makes perfect works like magic in tech, apply for boot camps, training, internships, and try to get as many hands-on experiences as you can get while building your portfolio, because, in tech, actual hands-on experience (with proof of your work) matters.

After doing these, it is quite important to also note that consistency and commitment are key to building anything, a career in tech included. So while doing this, try to be consistent, and dedicated to the path. Remember to have fun too!
