Done Deal-Top Five Players Chelsea Would Sign This Summer
Top five players Chelsea could sign in 2021? Who are the top five Chelsea targets? Who are the Chelsea transfer targets? Chelsea will need to sign a number of players this summer in order to compete with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City next season. So who should be the Chelsea summer transfer targets 2021? Here we look at the top five players Chelsea could sign in 2021.
Chelsea could not fully capitalise on their appointment of Frank Lampard and their ambitious transfer plans last summer. Despite bringing in talent at premium sums, they are yet to see the results on the pitch.
Now, The Blues are left to build once again under Thomas Tuchel. The German boss is bound to demand a few changes to his own liking. Not all players are suited to his pragmatic style of football. We can take a look at some of the top names Chelsea are targetting or have been linked with.
Note: I have selected players that are realistically attainable. Of course, I would put players like Lionel Messi if I wanted to, but I’ve selected players that Chelsea could actually sign (and have been linked to in the past). I’ve also considered positions that need strengthening the most such as left-back. So here are the players Chelsea could sign this summer 2021.
Top 5 Players Chelsea Could Sign In 2021
- Ousmane Dembele
Ousmane Dembele’s time at Barcelona could come to an end sooner than expected. The prodigious talent from France came in for £119m in 2018. Now, he just has two more years left in his contract and Barca could offload him for whatever they might get for him.
Thomas Tuchel previously coached him at Borussia Dortmund. He signed him from Stade Rennais and gave him the platform to succeed. There is still a strong bond between the two and a reunion in London is very possible.
Speaking to BeIN sports, Dembele explained, “Thomas Tuchel really convinced me, he is my favourite manager.”
He continued, “With Thomas Tuchel I played a bit more on the right side at the beginning of the season, and then I was moved more centrally, in the 10 position, sometimes even in the midfield three you see.
“And he told me to stay a bit more central, have an espresso as he used to say to me, the ball will come to you and then you will go. It would have been hard to leave Dortmund if Tuchel had stayed.”
- Kalidou Koulibaly – Players Chelsea Could Sign in 2021
Chelsea need to improve their defence. They have been linked with Koulibaly for the better part of the last decade. But Napoli never allowed him to be swayed by a better offer.
At 30, he has plenty of experience and is unlikely to cost as much. He also has plenty of experience. Thiago Silva might have helped manage the defence this season but Chelsea will need to line up replacements. The current backline is not good enough for Tuchel’s standards.
- Jadon Sancho – Players Chelsea Could Sign
This is more of a target for next summer. Chelsea are indeed well stocked in attack but with Callum Hudson-Odoi linked with a move to Bayern, the Blues could look to bring in a replacement and Sancho would in fact be an upgrade on that.
With Bayern still intersted in CHO, they could still go for Hudson-Odoi making it important for the Blues to get the Dortmund man this season!
- Declan Rice – Players Chelsea Could Sign
West Ham centre back Declan Rice is being pursued by Chelsea to improve their defensive and midfield side. Chelsea is trying to rack up cash – £65m to be precise – for the 21-year old midfielder. Lampard is looking to sell Jorginho in order to be able to buy former Chelsea academy player Declan Rice – and for the Chelsea manager, this seems like a good deal. Lampard has been eyeing the West Ham midfielder for a while and feels like he has good potential to rise at Chelsea, just like his best friend Mason Mount did.
- Erling Haaland
The Norwegian striker has been in excellent form over the last two years, building up the hype to where his next destination might be. Plenty of clubs are interested in signing him. In January, both Erling’s father, Alfe Inge Haaland and his agent, Mino Raiola took meetings at all top clubs in Europe.
Chelsea definitely have the financial backing to sign him but will need to convince him about their project. Otherwise, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City are all offering him attractive deals with the promise of silverware.
