Congo battles poverty amid abundant mineral resources
The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the countries in the world blessed with abundant mineral resources but despite this reality, the country has been enmeshed in poverty and war. According to Africa Facts Zone, Congo has the most mineral resources in the world. The country’s raw minerals are worth $24 trillion.
In a report by the World Bank, Congo’s poverty rate as at 2018 was 72%. This means 72% of the population was living in extreme poverty on less than $1.90 a day.
Some of the mineral resources you will find in Congo include copper, diamonds, gold, cobalt, uranium, coltan and oil. Africans including Nigeria took to the comment section of the tweet about Congo by Africa Facts Zone to share their thoughts.
“Congo DR should be one of the largest economies in the world but the Belgians and the UN have held the country by the balls and are looting indiscriminately in that country. They keep creating a “humanitarian crisis” to creat an easy ground for looting.”
Another tweep with the handle @izaq_kwasi wrote: “What wrong did Africans do to deserve some of the leaders we have? Poor leadership and lack of concern for welfare of citizens all over.
@FineJoeYoung believes Africans deserves what they are going through for not being united.
He wrote: “We deserve everything we get for not being united. Africans need to come together now, with a continent-wide protests things might change. But no, SAns & Nigerians are always fighting each other instead of sticking together smh.”…Congo battles poverty amid abundant mineral resources
