Arsenal Handed Massive Blow Ahead Of Everton Game
Arsenal head-coach Mikel Arteta has revealed that Arsenal five players are ahead of schedule in their recoveries from injury setbacks, but they are unlikely to be ready to play against Everton on Firday. The Gunners skipper, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has missed the last three games after contracting malaria on international duty, while Brazilian centre-back, David Luiz and Kieran Tierney both being out after suffering knee injuries.
Martin Odegaard, meanwhile, hasn’t featured since the 3-0 win against Liverpool at the start of the month due to the ankle knock while representing his team and Alexandre Lacazette added to Arteta’s woes when he strained his hamstring 1-1 draw against Fulham last weekend.
The Gunners are entering a potentially decisive week with a Europa League semi-final first leg against La Liga outfits, Villarreal on the horizon and Arteta hopes he will have a fuller team to choose from by the time the North London club lock horns with ex-manager Unai Emery.
‘Yes it is unfortunately the situation we have at the moment,’ said Arteta referencing his five injured players.
‘They are all doing really well to be fair, they are a little bit ahead of schedule. We don’t expect them for Everton I think, we have a doubt with Martin a little bit, let’s see how he is today in training. The rest will be out and get them back in the team as quick as possible.’
He added: ‘Again they are having a really good season, we are not getting the results that we want against Fulham where the result was disappointing apart from the performance, which in my opinion we totally deserved to win the game.
‘But we need to win every game now in the Premier League to give us the best possible chance to be in Europe next season through that competition.
‘Yes I think we do, and the way we are playing as well. But the Fulham game, not winning that one was a real shame for us because that would have put us in a much better position.
‘But we have to move on, we still have a lot to play for in the league and playing the semi final of the Europa League so we are all excited about the way we can finish this season.’
